Paid Sick and Family Leave Updates
States and cities continue to enact Paid Sick Leave (PSL) and Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) across the U.S. Check out these key 2019 paid sick and family leave updates for Texas and Massachusetts.
Texas Hold ‘Em
Dallas pushed through heaving opposition to require paid sick leave for most employers. San Antonio’s paid sick leave has been delayed until December 1st, 2019, while Austin’s paid/earned sick leave was entrenched in a legal battle with no confirmed start date.
Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave (Mass PFML)
From October 1st, 2019, Massachusetts employers are required to withhold PFML contributions from employees. A total of 75% of an employee’s wages will be withheld towards PFML, of which 62% is for medical leave and 13% is for family leave. Out of this total, certain employers are required to contribute 60% of the medical leave contribution. Workers will have the ability to use PFML starting in January 2021.
